The Silent Relationship

Think of your closest or best friend. Now, imagine if you never talked to them, or spoke with them, or hung out with them. Would you be friends? I think that you probably wouldn’t be. I know for myself that if I never talked or spent time with my closest friends, I wouldn’t be calling them friends.

One of the things that astounds me the most is when people say that they can’t figure out why they don’t have a deeper relationship with God. I then ask them if they pray or spend time with Him in adoration, and most of the time the response is “no” or “well, not really”.

How can you grow in a relationship with God if you don’t pray or spend time with Him?

What is prayer? Simply, prayer is just a conversation with God. He wants to know all about you, your day, how things are going, what you’re feeling, and so much more. And yes, He knows it all, but He’s waiting for you to tell Him. God sits and waits for you to come to Him, to talk with Him, and to be with Him. Just as you talk with your friends, God wants to talk with you. As you grow in prayer, you will grow closer to God, deeper in your relationship, and you will come to know Him more.

One of my favorite saints says this about prayer:

“Prayer is an aspiration of the heart, it is a simple glance directed to heaven, it is a cry of gratitude and love in the midst of trial as well as joy; finally, it is something great, supernatural, which expands my soul and unites me to Jesus.”
–St.Therese of Lisieux

       Hmmm. Yes, you go girl.

Secondly, God wants to just spend time with you. Take a few moments of each day to sit in His presence. Again, think of your friends and how you spend time and hang out with each other. Now think about how much the Creator, Our Father, wants to spend time with His creation, you. Go sit outside your church, or in your adoration chapel, or silently in your room inviting God to be with you.
Don’t be afraid to draw close to God. In James 4:8 it says, “draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” God never disappoints.

So, if you’re looking to grow in your relationship with God, reflect on your lifestyle in prayer. Are you spending enough time with Him, talking to Him? And if you think that you can improve, make the changes to live with #NOREGRETS

Peace my friends!

Prayer: Dear Lord, give me a greater desire to spend time with you and talk with you. Jesus help me to desire you above all things. I know and believe that you alone satisfy, so help me to rely on you, trust in you, and make you the center of my life.
