Priceless. That’s what you are, that’s what she is, he is, and I am. We are priceless.
I never really understood my worth up until this past year or two when I really sought out my relationship with the Lord. And to be quite frank, I believe no one will really be able to understand and know how priceless we really are. Do we really know how much we’re worth?
God not only tells us, but also shows us how much we are worth to Him. He shows us how much we are worth by giving up His one and only Son to die for us. We are worth the death of a king. He says in Isaiah 43:4 “Because you are precious in my eyes and honored, and I love you, I give people in return for you and nations in exchange for your life.” WE ARE WORTH MORE THAN NATIONS AND PEOPLE. The crazy thing is, I’ve grown up hearing this and knowing it my whole life.
So why did it take 18 years to finally click?
Honestly, I really don’t know. But I wish it clicked earlier. Because if I really knew my worth and the love that the Lord God had for me, if I really knew my dignity as a women and a daughter of God, I feel like I would have see the world so differently.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m human and I’m a sinner which means that even though I understand it a bit more now, I still fail miserably. The amount of times that I see myself or others around me lowering the bar of expectation, giving pitiful reasons of justification, or bending the rules (or our morals!) to make something “okay” is too many times to count. It’s too many times too much.
When I served as a missionary, I was blessed to have 6 other women on my team. They were my sisters. And one thing that one of the sisters on my team started saying to all of us was, “Do you see how beautiful that skyline is…? You’re more beautiful.” She would say it to all of us and then eventually we all caught on. All of us, whenever we would see something so beautiful, we would say, “do you see that..? You’re more beautiful!” The thing is though, it’s not just about your beauty. It’s that you recognize that even though “that thing” is so beautiful, God sees you as more. You are worth more than however amazing that “thing” is.
Even while writing this post I am so overwhelmed about how much we are worth to our Father in Heaven. So, whoever we are and wherever we are. Let’s stop lowering the bar, let’s stop justifying, and let’s stop bending our rules or morals. Because the only one we should have our sights on is The Lord, and He isn’t the type of person to make us do any of that. He sees us, He accepts us, He loves us, and He calls us worthy.
So let’s live like it.
Prayer: God, show me how you see and love me. Show me my worth as a child of God. Let me draw closer to you and experience you in a new way, and let me know you as the loving and good God you are. Amen.
